The 2021 summer transfer window was not expected to be a busy one.

The Coronavirus pandemic has severely damaged the world economy - and a number of football leagues and clubs have struggled badly as a result.

The Italian Serie A and Spanish Primera Division have been two of the worst to suffer, with giant clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus and Inter loaded with debt and unable to do much expensive business.

But in the Premier League and in Paris, it has been business as usual.

PSG have made a string of sensational signings, including Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Achraf Hakimi, Gini Wijnaldum and Gigi Donnarumma.

Meanwhile, the Premier League has broken the €100m mark for two signings in Jack Grealish and Romelu Lukaku, as well as completing many other major deals like Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Ben White.

Real Madrid could add to their debts with the acquisition of Kylian Mbappe.

So when did the 2021 transfer market open in Europe's big five leagues and when will it shut its doors?

When did the transfer window open?

Premier League

The Premier League transfer window opened on 9 June.

La Liga

Serie A

Serie A's transfer window opened on 1 July.

Bundesliga

The German Bundesliga's transfer window opened on 1 July.

The Premier League was the only one of the top five leagues in Europe that had an early start for the 2021 transfer window, starting a whole 21 days before the top-flights in Spain, Italy, Germany and France.

As such the Premier League was also the first league to announce their release list, which is usually done towards the end of June but was completed at the start.
