Real Madrid set to offload highly regarded player for €30m with Inter monitoring
Real Madrid are looking to sell 27-year-old backup goalkeeper Andriy Lunin for €30 million this summer, according to Fichajes.
Los Blancos are looking to raise funds after making only €18 million in player sales since 2024. The quoted fee for Lunin would exceed that amount itself, and it is reportedly the maximum that his main suitors, Inter, are willing to pay.
The Spanish giants are no strangers to big sales, as Casemiro left to join Manchester United for €70 million in 2022, and Martin Odegaard and Raphael Varane left for €35 million and €40 million, respectively, the summer before that.
A few big teams from Europe are said to be looking at Lunin, with Italian giants Inter leading the way.
Inter makes perfect sense for Lunin
Inter have long been rumoured to be looking for their Yann Sommer replacement this summer, and for Lunin, joining the Nerazzuri would be a golden opportunity.
With just 19 appearances this season and last season combined, the Ukraine international will want to find himself a starting role now that he is 27.
The Serie A frontrunners are between eras at the moment, with the older contingent of Sommer, Francesco Acerbi, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s careers in their twilight years.
The 5-0 defeat in the 2025 Champions League Final was also an inflection point, but the team has recovered well in domestic competition, at least, under Cristian Chivu.
Lunin would be shielded by a group of quality centre-backs in Alessandro Bastoni, Yann Bisseck, and Manuel Akanji, assuming the group stays intact in 2026/27.
The ‘keeper has made just five appearances all season, so the €30 million fee may be a risk from Inter’s perspective, but the player is a seasoned international who represented Real Madrid well when starter Thibaut Courtois was injured in 2023/24.
That season, Lunin kept 10 clean sheets in 21 matches, conceded 17 goals, and prevented 4.3 goals when comparing his goals conceded to his Expected Goals on Target (the percentage of likelihood a goal will be scored based on where it hits the target).
