Mohamed Salah was close to leaving Liverpool last year amid contract negotiations with the club with his agent, Ramy Abbas.

The Guardian reports that the attacker was very near to leaving Anfield in search of greener pastures. Talks had begun in 2020 and went on as late as June 2022 when, it details in the study, discussions with the Reds had ‘broken down entirely.’

Abbas said: “When you have put your requests on the table and you don’t get anything you’ve asked for, you have to start thinking about parting ways.”

The saga was laid bare in a recent Harvard Business School (HBS) study, with Salah agreeing to part take if his words were used as if it was the time of the discussions.

“I have been positive about the negotiations from the beginning but now that Ramy told me they have not agreed to anything we wanted,” said Salah. “I see things differently. I feel like the club wants me to stay, and I want to stay, but it’s hard to get a deal done.”

The contract was eventually sealed last summer and Salah renewed until 2025. The study ends with Salah stating. “Renewing at Liverpool would be one of the biggest milestones of my career,” he says. “But we have to do this the right way. I’ve learned throughout my career that if you want to be successful, it is important to invest in yourself not just physically but also mentally. That is true on the field, but also off the field. You have to control your emotions and be ready for the pressure.”

Salah’s huge salary revealed

Salah's contract at Liverpool among other avenues of income, such as commercial deals, makes him earn at least £1million a week, according to the same study.

The Liverpool attacker is on a mouth-watering deal with the Reds, his lawyer and adviser have revealed. Issa told the study that it would even be a ‘conservative’ estimate of the player’s wages.

Such money comes from third parties, including Adidas, the Bank of Alexandria in Egypt, PepsiCo, and Gucci.
