Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed which midfielders are on Liverpool's shopping list.

The Reds are looking to freshen up their centre of the park after a dismal campaign that will likely see them miss out on Champions League football next season. With James Milner, Jordan Henderson, Thiago and Fabinho not getting any younger and Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho still too raw to star in a title-challenging midfield, Jurgen Klopp and company are keen to bring in several new faces in the summer.

Having already pulled out of the race to sign Dortmund luminary Jude Bellingham due to the exorbitant fee the Englishman would command, the Scousers have set their sights on several midfield targets which they feel would offer a better value-for-money package than merely one mega-expensive addition.

Gravenberch and Nunes

According to the Italian reporter, Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Nunes and out-of-favour Bayern midfielder Ryan Gravenberch are among the talents Liverpool have identified, though as things stand, they would favour one over the other.

In a column for CaughtOffside, Romano claimed that the status of Nunes has changed in the eyes of the Reds' recruitment department. "Nunes is no longer a priority target," he wrote. "Just one of the players followed by them." The same, however, can't be said for the Dutchman.

"Ryan Gravenberch is one of many names appreciated by Liverpool, not the only one. There are many opportunities, also Bayern still hope to be able to keep the player." Indeed, Footmercato's Santi Aouna is also reporting that Liverpool are one of Gravenberch's suitors, as are Manchester United.

In addition to these two names, Romano asserted on his YouTube channel that Liverpool are currently in pole position to land Brighton's World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister, who will '100 per cent leave in the summer.' It's shaping up to be an intriguing summer window on Merseyside.
