Arsenal are interested in signing Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey as a replacement for Hector Bellerin, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Spaniard’s contract doesn’t run out until the summer of 2023 but he has been linked with a move to either PSG and Juventus that would end a 10-year stay at the Emirates.

It appears Arsenal have identified their preferred replacement in 20-year-old Lamptey, who had excelled for the Seagulls this season prior to a hamstring injury.

“For sure, next summer, can happen something big for him,” Romano said on the Here We Go podcast.

“Arsenal are looking at him as possible option at right-back. Keep an eye on Arsenal because they are among the clubs interested in Lamptey.

“There is still nothing advanced, there is still nothing signed. Nothing serious yet, but they’re looking at him, he’s on the list. He’s considered an interesting player, so Arsenal will decide the future in the coming months.

“They will plan in April/May and not in March for next summer, but they are looking at players, interesting players, good opportunities & Lamptey, for sure, is on the list – not only for Arsenal, other clubs are interested.”

A deal for the player could be made more complicated by his former club Chelsea.

The Blues have an undisclosed sell-on clause meaning they will receive a percentage of any deal for the defender, which will likely provoke Brighton to demand a higher fee.
