FIFA releases World Cup 'Limited Edition Host City Jerseys' - for $380
FIFA has released new limited-edition soccer kits for each of the host cities of the 2026 World Cup, but again normal fans feel they are being priced out.
In the lead-up to the World Cup, football fans all over the world have been complaining about how expensive World Cup tickets have become. For a lot of people, the prices just feel out of reach, especially once you add flights, hotels, and everything else in between. What used to feel like a once-in-a-lifetime trip for devoted fans is starting to look more like something only the wealthy can afford.
This has led to a lot of frustration, with fans saying the tournament is losing touch with the people who make it special in the first place. Many think organisers care more about making money than keeping the atmosphere authentic, and there’s been growing pressure online for fairer pricing and better access.
At the end of the day, fans just don’t want to see the World Cup turn into an event where true supporters are left watching from home.
FIFA's dynamic pricing has meant that increased demand has led to a spike in ticket costs. The USA's opening match against Paraguay is the third-most expensive of the entire tournament and with tickets costing $1,000 at a minimum, it is currently being outsold by Iran versus New Zealand at the same venue.
In addition to ticket prices, the prices of hotel rooms have spiked, while cities are charging fans exorbitant train and bus prices to reach out-of-town venues from metropolitan areas.
FIFA's latest money-making scheme has seen them release special kits inspired by the host cities.
These come in at a cool $380 which, for less popular matches, could get you into a World Cup game.
"Own a piece of FIFA World Cup 2026 history," FIFA's official website says.
"Limited to just 999 worldwide, each Host City jersey features athlete-grade materials, moisture-wicking tech, and an exclusive NFC experience unlocking digital content. Complete with premium packaging, collectible inserts, and a certificate of authenticity, this is more than a jersey, it’s a moment preserved."
By just creating 999, FIFA are hoping the scarcity of availability will need to fans buying the kits.
