Inter Miami have been warned off reuniting Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar in Major League Soccer.

Between 2014 until 2017, Barcelona’s front three of Messi, Suarez and Neymar – also known as ‘MSN’ – were virtually unstoppable. They provided a lethal mix of skill, speed and shooting ability as they swept aside all before them.

The trio were the key men as the Blaugrana won the treble in their first campaign all together, and twice they scored well over 100 goals in a season in total between them.

The trio broke up when Neymar made a world-record switch to Paris Saint-Germain, but Messi would later sign with the Parisians too as they rekindled their partnership, albeit to less devastating effect.

Messi joined Inter Miami in July 2023, while Suarez arrived ahead of the 2024 season, officially joining in December 2023. Together, they have been hugely successful in the United States.

In 2025, Messi scored 29 MLS goals and added 16 assists, while Suárez contributed 10 goals and 10 assists in the league. Across all competitions, Suárez finished 2025 with 17 goals and 17 assists, helping Miami win the Eastern Conference and MLS Cup.

Rumours have circulated that Neymar may join his pals for a reunion, with former Brazil midfielder Felipe Melo even suggesting the move is on in January.

“I spoke to a friend who had given me news about Santos. He told me that Neymar was going to play in Miami. Starting in January, Neymar will join Miami. If that happens, I will have been the first to announce the news here. Let's wait and see what happens,” he said in quotes published by FootMercato.

Melo's words came after Neymar suggested he may hang up his boots soon, coming off an extremely disappointing showing at the World Cup with Brazil.

One man who thinks Miami signing Neymar would be a mistake is former Manchester United striker Giuseppe Rossi, now Head of Soccer at New York Cosmos.

He believes it would be nothing more than a marketing stunt rather than improving Miami or indeed the MLS as a whole.

“This is where MLS are making mistakes, and they continue to make these mistakes," Rossi told Goal.

“It’s great marketing, it is what it is, but what kind of product are you putting on the field? Bringing Neymar back to reunite him with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, what are you trying to become as a league?

“If it’s to get to the level of the big boys out in Europe like the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga and those competitions, you’re moving at a snail’s pace but MLS is very thirsty for clicks and views, and they don’t really care about the standard of the football itself.

“Yes, they have made great strides, and well done to them for that. The valuations of the clubs are high and it’s a great business model but what about the football? Is that growing and moving forward? I don’t think so, and that’s something that has to change.

“The problem is that the people in charge don’t really care. They only care about the valuations. That’s the problem when you put these billionaires in charge of a league. They’d love to see Neymar come to MLS and play with Messi again but it’s not going to grow MLS as a football league. That’s what I think.”

Messi's Miami contract runs until 2028, but he has also spoken recently about retirement in the aftermath of his father Jorge passing away.
