Chelsea 'reject' €140m Enzo Fernandez offer

Chelsea have reportedly rejected an official bid worth more than €140 million (£120m) from Manchester City for wantaway midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

The Argentina international is desperate to reunite with former boss Enzo Maresca at the Etihad Stadium before the end of Transfer Deadline Day, but Man City have seen a formal proposal turned down by Chelsea.

That is according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook, who claims that Xabi Alonso’s side have rejected an opening offer worth in excess of €140m, with the Blues wanting a higher figure to sanction a sale this close to the end of the window.

If Man City are successful with a second bid, it’s understood that Chelsea will intensify their pursuit of AS Monaco’s Lamine Camara, who is eager to join the Stamford Bridge outfit and has reportedly reached an agreement on contract terms.

A first offer has been rejected by Monaco, but Chelsea are highly likely to return with an improved proposal if Man City meet their demands for Fernandez.

The Blues are also keeping tabs on Manu Kone and while AS Roma boss Gian Piero Gasperini has blocked a sale, FootballTransfers contributor Steve Kay understands that personal terms have been agreed with the France international.

Meanwhile, talkSPORT report that Martin Zubimendi, Lucas Bergvall and Morgan Gibbs-White are also being targeted by Chelsea. However, a move for the latter has been ruled out by Nottingham Forest.

In addition to Fernandez, Tosin Adarabioyo is also expected to leave Chelsea on a permanent deal before the end of the summer window, while loan moves have been finalised for Mykhailo Mudryk, Robert Sanchez and Shumaira Mheuka.

Will Enzo Fernandez join Man City?

Fernandez wanted to join Real Madrid during the early weeks of the summer transfer window, but he quickly turned his attention to reuniting with Maresca at Man City after being informed that Los Blancos had no interest in signing him.

The eight-time Premier League champions have already bolstered their midfield roster with the signings of Ayyoub Bouaddi and Elliot Anderson so far this summer, but they are desperate to reach an agreement for Fernandez after losing Rodri, Bernardo Silva, Tijjani Reijnders and Nico Gonzalez.

Marc Guehi started in midfield during their opening day win over Bournemouth, while Nico O’Reilly was selected in the middle of the park alongside Rayan Cherki and Anderson versus Crystal Palace on Friday night.

Fernandez has urged Chelsea officials to accept a bid from Man City before the transfer window closes, but the deal isn’t guaranteed and is likely to go right down to the wire.
