Former Premier League footballer goes missing as police conduct search

Concerns have been raised after former Premier League footballer Akos Buzsaky seemingly went missing over the past week.

The Hungarian, who represented the likes of Porto, Queens Park Rangers, and Portsmouth in his career, has been missing since 18 August after last being spotted in Budapest.

Police have started an investigation into his disappearance and even his own father has no idea of his whereabouts.

"I didn’t know that the police were also looking for my son," Akos Buzsaky Sr told Hungarian outlet Blikk.

“He basically spends a lot of time in Greece, where he works as a construction contractor. He spent almost the entire last year there.

“Since we don’t live under the same roof, it’s not surprising that we only speak less often. The last time I spoke to him was last week, when he was at home.”

Buzsaky began his career at MTK Budapest before moving to FC Porto in 2002, where he won the Portuguese league and UEFA Cup. He later moved to England, joining Plymouth Argyle, where he became a popular player and established himself in the Championship.

In 2007, Buzsaky joined QPR, becoming an important player and helping the club win the Championship and gain promotion to the Premier League in 2011. He later played for Portsmouth, Barnsley and Ferencváros, and represented Hungary 20 times, scoring two goals before retiring in 2015.

QPR said in a statement: "The club are concerned to learn that R's favourite Akos Buzsaky has been reported missing. We're all praying he's found safe and well."

Plymouth wrote: "We are concerned to hear that Akos Buzsáky has been reported missing. Everybody at Plymouth Argyle is hoping that Akos is found safe soon."
