Chelsea striker Shumaira Mheuka has signed a new long-term contract after the club finally reached an agreement over fresh terms.

The England U19 international has been locked in contract extension talks with the Chelsea hierarchy for the entire summer and a deal has now been finalised, with Mheuka set to head out on loan for the 2026-27 campaign.

That is according to The Athletic, who confirm that Mhueka has put pen to paper on a new deal at Stamford Bridge following a sensational season at academy level, in which he scored 18 goals in 19 appearances in the Premier League 2.

Mheuka won the division’s Player of the Year award and he likely would’ve been selected for Chelsea’s pre-season tour of Australia and Asia had there not been significant doubt over his future. As a result, Mheuka was left at home, but he has now signed on the dotted line to commit his future to the Blues.

The Chelsea Spot claim that a loan deal has also been agreed, with Mheuka’s next move set to be officially announced shortly. It’s understood that multiple clubs in Europe and the EFL have registered interest in the 18-year-old, although it’s perhaps more likely that a domestic move could be on the cards due to a limit of six international loan spots.

Joao Pedro has cemented his place as Chelsea’s preferred centre forward since his arrival from Brighton & Hove Albion, and he is set to play a pivotal role alongside Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers in the Blues’ attack this term.

Meanwhile, Emmanuel Emegha and Danny Welbeck will compete for the back-up role, with Nicolas Jackson, Liam Delap and Marc Guiu all set to be sold on permanent deals before the transfer window closes on 1 September.

However, Mheuka could be Chelsea’s starting striker in the near future if his exploits at youth level are anything to go by.

The teenager is regarded as one of England’s best young prospects and with 16 goals in 23 caps for the U19s, it won’t be long before he is the first-choice option for the U21s.

A strong loan move in 2026-27 will certainly aid Mheuka’s development and if he continues on his current trajectory, he could well become Chelsea’s preferred striker within the next three years.
