Manchester United have officially announced the signing of Tottenham Hotspur youngster Tynan Thompson for a reported transfer fee that could reach €9.4 million.

The 18-year-old forward scored 13 goals across all competitions for Spurs’ Under-18 and Under-21 sides last season, including seven in seven UEFA Youth League games, and he has become Man Utd’s fourth signing of the summer following Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Karl Darlow.

According to The Evening Standard, Man Utd have paid an initial fee of €4.7m to sign Thompson, while there is further €4.7m in possible add-ons payments. Furthermore, The Sun report that a 15% sell-on clause has also been included in the deal.

It’s understood that Thompson’s family expressed a desire to reallocate due to personal circumstances and this played a role in his move away from Spurs.

The teenager is expected to link up with Man Utd’s academy side following his arrival at the club, despite being officially named as a first-team signing, and he has become the latest youngster to join the Red Devils from a Premier League rival after the signings of Chido Obi and Ayden Heaven from Arsenal.

Following the signing of Thompson, Man Utd are likely to turn their attention back towards adding a third new central midfielder to Michael Carrick’s first-team squad.

A move for Atalanta star Ederson fell through after he failed his medical, and it’s reported that Man Utd are now eager to sign AS Roma midfielder Manu Kone after his impressive form at the World Cup, while the likes of Carlos Baleba (Brighton & Hove Albion) and Alex Scott (Bournemouth) remain on their radar.

In addition, Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall is regarded as their priority left-back target, amid their pursuit of a player capable of challenging Luke Shaw, and a new left winger may be signed before Deadline Day despite the emergence of Patrick Dorgu in that role.

Marcus Rashford could, however, be reintegrated if Man Utd are unable to find a suitor for the England international. The 28-year-old was keen to join Barcelona on a permanent deal following his loan spell at Camp Nou last term, but Hansi Flick’s side have no interest in bringing him back and they have agreed a deal for Karim Adeyemi, having already signed Anthony Gordon.
