Ted Lasso is back for season four this summer.

At the conclusion of season three of the AppleTV+ series, it was assumed by many that the finale would be the last we would see of Lasso and that his arc as a character had ended.

It saw Ted return to the United States to be with his son, Henry, after his spell in the United Kingdom in charge of A.F.C. Richmond.

Ted Lasso tells the story of an American college soccer coach who is hired by a Premier League team in England, with the owner actually hiring him in the hopes that he will tank the club into relegation so that she can get revenge on her cheating ex-husband.

It stars Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Phil Dunster, Jeremy Swift, Brett Goldstein, Nick Mohammed, Juno Temple and Brendan Hunt.

Though the show was undoubtedly cheesy at times, it did receive critical acclaim for the most part and was nominated for 61 Primetime Emmy Awards over its run.

Before season three aired, creator Sudeikis told Deadline:

"This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell.

"The fact that folks will want more and are curious beyond more than what they don’t even know yet—that being Season 3—it’s flattering. Maybe by May 31, once all 12 episodes of the season [have been released], they’re like, ‘Man, you know what, we get it, we’re fine. We don’t need anymore, we got it.’

"But until that time comes, I will appreciate the curiosity beyond what we’ve come up with so far.”

Alas, Lasso will return in season four, so here's everything we know about it.

What is the plot of Ted Lasso season four?

It picks up after Ted has begun settling back in the USA. The official premise reads:

'Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team. Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.'

“As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to ‘look before we leap', in season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be,” Sudeikis said of season four.

It is believed the third season will act as the start of a new trilogy of seasons for the show.

“What’s cool about streaming television is when you pitch a story for Ted Lasso that has a beginning, middle and end, you can do that story and be done with it,” co-creator Bill Lawrence said.

“And then, anybody that’s seen the pictures can tell that Jason and his gang are telling a brand new three-season story with Ted Lasso.”

Who stars in Ted Lasso season four?

Sudeikis, Waddingham, Goldstein, Hunt, Swift and Temple are all set to return as Ted Lasso, Rebecca Welton, Roy Kent, Coach Willis Beard, Leslie Higgins and Keeley Jones alongside newcomers Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsey, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey and Abbie Hern.
