Mainoo new deal reaction

Kobbie Mainoo has signed a new contract with Man Utd that will keep him at Old Trafford for the next five years.

Reacting to the news, he said: “Manchester United has always been my home; this special club means everything to my family.

“We can all feel the momentum building inside the club. I am determined to step up and play my role in helping Manchester United to regularly fight for major trophies in the years ahead.”

He added on Instagram: “Proud to sign for five more years, blessed to call this place home.”

Man Utd director of football Jason Wilcox hailed the move, stating: “Kobbie is one of the most naturally gifted young footballers in the world.

“His technical ability, dedicated professionalism and humble personality make him the perfect role model for our young players and a true credit to our outstanding Academy system.

“We are delighted that Kobbie has extended his stay here and have full confidence that he will develop into one of the best players in the world, ready to play a pivotal role in a Manchester United team challenging for the biggest honours.”

Rafael Leao emerges as cheap Rogers alternative

Manchester United’s hunt for a winger has seen them put Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers at the top of their shortlist, but with many leading clubs hunting the England international, there is an acceptance that he may be a player that they are forced to miss out on.

In particular, the financial aspect of the deal promises to be complicated for the Red Devils, leading Gazzetta dello Sport to report that Rafael Leao is seen as a cheaper alternative for the Birmingham-based star.

The Portugal international’s relationship with Milan is currently complicated, which has led the Rossoneri to slash his asking price to just €50 million, which is likely to be around half of what Villa want for Rogers.

In addition, Joshua Zirkzee could be a makeweight in any deal, potentially reducing the transfer fee even further.

No bidding war for Anderson

Man Utd will not allow themselves to be drawn into a bidding war for Elliot Anderson, despite the Nottingham Forest star being touted as their dream central midfield signing, ESPN reports.

It is claimed that Forest have set an astronomical asking price of £120m - close to €140m - for the England international midfielder, who is also wanted by Manchester City.

The Red Devils believe that Anderson’s asking price is “vastly inflated” and have instead set a top-end purchase price of £90m (€105m) for any signing in this area.

United are aiming to make this figure from players leaving the club.

Barcelona make fresh Rashford offer

Barcelona may not be willing to pay the €30 million purchase clause in Marcus Rashford’s loan deal, but they are ready to go back to Man Utd and seek a second loan spell, Florian Plettenberg claims.

The Sky Sport Deutschland journalist stated: “Understand Barcelona are pushing for a second loan for Marcus Rashford.

“Talks with Manchester United are ongoing. Barcelona currently do not want to trigger the €30m option to buy - ideally a second loan, otherwise they want to negotiate the fee down.

“In any case, Rashford should stay. Approved by Hansi Flick.”

United have been adamant that they will not renegotiate their position, particularly as there are suitors in the Premier League lining up to sign the England star.

Mount commits his future to United

Mason Mount has all but confirmed that he will still be a Manchester United player next season, despite rumours suggesting that he could depart the club during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Speaking to BBC Sport at a two-day Make A Wish foundation event at George’s Park, Mount admitted: “I've won the Champions League already, so I have a goal of winning the Premier League. Can we do that? Yes, I think we can.

“It may seem a little bit far away, but you must have that mentality to really push yourself as a group.

“We've shown what we can do against the big teams already; Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, so we've done it. Now it's about doing it on a bigger stage in the Champions League and doing it more consistently in the Premier League.

“Hopefully, I will be a massive part of that moving forward next season. It's a goal: I want to win the Premier League.”
