Chelsea target ‘unbeatable’ Enzo Fernandez replacement in club-record deal
Faced with the threat of losing Enzo Fernandez in the summer, Chelsea are lining up a record move for one of Ligue 1’s best players.
Chelsea are fronting up to the possibility that they could see Argentina international midfielder Enzo depart in the summer, with the 22-year-old having openly flirted with a move to Real Madrid in recent days.
Faced with this uncomfortable possibility, the Stamford Bridge club are eyeing a move for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, according to a report from Fichajes.
Chelsea lead Liverpool and Newcastle for Lamine Camara
Chelsea have taken the lead in the race to sign Camara from the Ligue 1 side. The 22-year-old is also wanted by Liverpool and Newcastle.
It claims the backroom staff of the London club see the former Metz player as “unbeatable” due to his ability to bring a fresh physical dimension, ball-winning ability and vision to the Blues team.
Transfer strategy revealed
Chelsea’s strategy to sign Camara is to throw money at the problem. Monaco do not wish to sell their midfielder, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €34.8 million. With a contract that runs until 2029, the Ligue 1 side are under little pressure to buckle for a cheap price.
Faced with a club unwilling to sell and the possibility of two of their Premier League rivals swooping in to sign the player, the Blues are willing to spend up to €85m to snap up Camara.
This would represent a record sale for Monaco, eclipsing the €80m figure that they sold Aurelien Tchouameni to Real Madrid for in 2022.
Lamine Camara: The ultimate athlete who can offer Chelsea a new dimension
Camara is the ultimate athlete in the centre of the field. SciSports’ data indicates that he is both fast and has considerably higher stamina levels compared to the average Ligue 1 central midfielder, and in a league noted for its physicality, this is impressive.
This season in Ligue 1, meanwhile, his stats show that he has a particularly high expected assists (xA) figure but also posts strong counter-interception numbers, showing that he can have an impact at both ends of the field.
In terms of his playing style, he resembles Enzo more than Moises Caicedo, yet he has attributes of a ball-winning midfielder that neither of Chelsea’s current central players boasts.
The belief at Stamford Bridge is that Camara will balance out heart of the field and provide more of a stable platform for the team to build around. This is why Chelsea are willing to spend so much money on him.
