Man Utd reach 'verbal contract agreement' with Harry Maguire

Manchester United have reached a full verbal agreement with Harry Maguire over a one-year contract extension, according to football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano.

The England international, who was recalled by Thomas Tuchel for the March international break, is currently set to become a free agent in July, but Man Utd are on the verge of officially extending his deal by a further 12 months.

Maguire has re-established himself as an integral player for the Red Devils under interim boss Michael Carrick and the club have acted quickly to secure his future amid rumours that he could depart on a Bosman deal in July.

That is according to Romano, who posted on Instagram: “Here we go! Harry Maguire, set to sign [a] new deal at Man United until June 2027.

“Verbal agreement in place with Maguire and United set to put pen to paper before the end of the season. The agreement will also include an option on club side to extend the contract until June 2028 - if United want.”

Maguire has started 10 consecutive Premier League matches for Man Utd, although he will miss their home clash against Leeds United on 13 April after receiving a red card during their 2-2 draw versus Bournemouth before the international break.

Kobbie Mainoo to receive new contract

In addition to Maguire, Man Utd are also set to reward Kobbie Mainoo with a new deal following his resurgence since the departure of former boss Ruben Amorim.

The England midfielder was widely tipped to leave Old Trafford in January after falling down the pecking order under Amorim, but he has been reinstated as a key player since the arrival of Carrick and the Red Devils are in negotiations over fresh terms.

Mainoo’s current deal is due to expire in 2027, however he is expected to finalise a new long-term contract shortly.
