Napoli plan Scott McTominay talks amid Man Utd return speculation
Napoli are poised to hold contract talks with Scott McTominay amid interest from Manchester United and other European top clubs, according to Italian media.
The Scotland international has been nothing short of sensational for Napoli since reluctantly leaving boyhood club Man Utd in the summer of 2024. The Red Devils' loss - brought about by concerns over financial regulations - has been the Italian champions' gain.
Napoli won the Scudetto last season, thanks in no small part to the exploits of McTominay, who was named Serie A's Player of the Season after scoring 12 goals and producing six assists in 34 league appearances.
This term, too, the 29-year-old has been impactful, although Napoli are not quite as successful as last term. He has notched nine goals and four assists across all competitions so far, but the Partenopei are nine points off leaders Inter and crashed out of the Champions League league phase.
It has been suggested that McTominay could depart the club in the summer. He has received interest from various suitors such as Barcelona, Newcastle, Tottenham and more, while it has also been claimed that Man Utd are looking to re-sign him.
McTominay set for contract talks
However, Gazzetta dello Sport has now dismissed assertions that McTominay feels he has achieved all that he can achieve at Napoli. On the contrary, the Italian publication claims that the midfielder is keen to win more silverware with the Serie A giants.
His current contract runs until 2028, but both the player and the club are open to an extension. Initial discussions over a new deal are set to take place soon. The player's representatives are slated to jet into Naples next month.
"Napoli touched him from the first moment, and also gave him the greatest joy: last year's Scudetto was the first championship he'd won in his career," the report states. "Scott hopes to win more. And he'd like to do so always wearing the blue jersey."
Napoli want to hand McTominay fresh terms until 2030, and this agreement would naturally entail a healthy pay increase as well, given his outstanding performances for the club.
The love affair between McTominay and Napoli is set to continue for the foreseeable future.
