Enzo Fernandez wants new Chelsea contract amid Real Madrid interest
Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo are reportedly among the Chelsea stars keen to negotiate improved contract terms with the Blues hierarchy this year.
The midfield duo have established themselves as integral players at Stamford Bridge since their respective arrivals from Benfica and Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023, and they remain pivotal to Liam Rosenior’s current system.
Fernandez has notched 10 goal contributions in just 25 Premier League appearances so far this season, while Caicedo has continued to solidify his reputation as one of the best defensive midfielders in world football this term.
The former’s deal isn’t due to expire until 2032 and the latter is committed until 2031, with the option for an additional 12 months. As a result, Chelsea are under no pressure to agree fresh terms with the pair. However, they are both eager to be rewarded for their recent form at Stamford Bridge.
That is according to a report from The Athletic, who state that both Fernandez and Caicedo want to negotiate an improved contract with the club’s hierarchy.
Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson were rewarded with fresh terms in 2024, following impressive debuts seasons in west London, and Fernandez and Caicedo are understood to be eager to follow suit.
England defender Levi Colwill is also likely to be in line for a new deal at Stamford Bridge once he returns to action following the anterior cruciate ligament injury he unfortunately suffered last August.
However, The Athletic have also revealed that one unnamed senior player recently turned down a contract offer from the club, with a view of revisiting his situation at the end of the 2025-26 season.
Chelsea prepared for contract extension talks
Despite rumours suggesting that Fernandez, Caicedo and Cole Palmer all have suitors across European football, Chelsea have no intention of selling their best players, and retaining their biggest stars is a key aim of BlueCo’s model, as per The Athletic.
That being said, the club could be forced to consider offers for several players this summer if they are unable to agree contract extensions.
Reece James, Marc Cucurella, Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo are all out of contract in 2028, and the Blues will be required to agree fresh terms or consider sales when the upcoming summer transfer window opens.
