Semenyo signs for Man City and five transfers that could be completed this week
The January transfer window is in full swing, and several major deals have already been completed.
Surprisingly, Crystal Palace have pulled off the biggest transfer so far, signing Brennan Johnson from Tottenham for a club-record-shattering €40 million.
Elsewhere, West Ham have splashed the cash in a bid to avoid relegation. Strikers Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe have joined for €29m from Lazio and €23m from Gil Vicente, respectively.
More blockbuster deals are expected to materialise before the week is out, with some of the Premier League's biggest names expected to be on the move.
Below, FootballTransfers lists five transfers that could be completed this week...
Antoine Semenyo - Man City
Bournemouth superstar Antoine Semenyo will complete his Man City medical on Thursday and officially sign his contract with Pep Guardiola's side after a lengthy saga.
The Ghana international has been expected to join the Etihad club since Christmas, but his arrival has been delayed due to an agreement with Bournemouth that he would be allowed to play in their tough fixtures against Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham.
Another factor is that Bournemouth have yet to find a suitable replacement, having seen a verbal €40m offer for Stuttgart's Jamie Leweling rebuffed. However, Semenyo will finally complete his €74m move to Man City this week.
Marc Guehi - Man City
Semenyo isn't the only standout Premier League performer Man City want to sign. They also hold a strong interest in Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi following injuries to Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiola.
Both players are expected to be out for several weeks, which is why Man City have put an emergency plan in place to keep their title hopes alive. Talks with Palace are already taking place.
There is no guarantee that a move will materialise, but Eagles boss Oliver Glasner has admitted that Palace are likely to sell should a suitable offer arrive due to Guehi's expiring contract.
Igor Tyjon - Arsenal
Arsenal are in active talks to sign Blackburn Rovers teenager Igor Tyjon, having already shown an interest in the striker in the summer transfer window.
The 17-year-old has entered the final six months of his scholarship deal at Ewood Park, and Arsenal are trying to bring him in this month as a reinforcement for the academy.
Rovers boss Valerien Ismael has confirmed that Tyjon has opted to reject a contract extension with the Championship club.
Joao Cancelo - Barcelona
Joao Cancelo will leave Al-Hilal this week to return to Europe. The Portugal international has been told that he is surplus to requirements and will depart on loan.
Al-Hilal agreed a deal with Inter last week, but Barcelona were emboldened to hijack the move after Cancelo made it clear that he was desperate to return to Catalunya, having spent the 2023/24 season on loan there.
An agreement between Al-Hilal and Barcelona has been reached. The LaLiga giants will cover €4m of his salary for the next six months, but they will not have a purchase option.
Jorgen Strand Larsen - Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest are in the market for a striker after loaning Arnaud Kalimuendo to Eintracht Frankfurt. Wolves star Jorgen Strand Larsen is reportedly Sean Dyche's top target this month.
Wolves were desperate to keep hold of the Norwegian in the summer and successfully handed him a new contract, but their disastrous campaign has now led to an acceptance that he will leave sooner rather than later.
Wolves are ready to sanction a move if they receive an offer in the region of €50m. Forest have also explored a deal for Lorenzo Lucca, who is currently on loan at Napoli from Udinese.
