Marcus Rashford’s future could be settled very quickly, with Fabrizio Romano indicating that Barcelona have told the on-loan Manchester United star that they plan to keep him beyond this term.

Rashford was frozen out under Ruben Amorim at Man Utd and was sent on loan to Aston Villa a year ago before a switch to Barcelona in the summer.

Despite strong performances from the England attacker in Spain – he has scored seven goals and created nine more in 26 appearances – there had been serious doubts over his future due to the Catalan club’s financial position.

“In the last 24 hours, Barcelona have told Marcus Rashford’s camp that they would love to continue with him beyond this season,” Romano told his YouTube channel.

“Barcelona are very happy with him in terms of performances, versatility and professionalism. Rashford has been fantastic, always serious, always professional, and a very good presence in the dressing room.

“The buy option is €30 million, and it is not mandatory. Barcelona will not activate it now, but internally the intention to keep Rashford is very clear.

“Financial discussions will come later, but Manchester United know that Barcelona are genuinely interested.”

Rashford is a €30m bargain

Rashford promises to be a bargain signing for the Catalan outfit. The 28-year-old posts an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €52.2m.

There is little doubt then that signing him for a mere €30m represents strong value for the Catalan side, who have acted decisively in the wake of Ruben Amorim’s sacking at Old Trafford. At no point in Rashford’s professional career since exploding onto the scene as a teenager with the Red Devils has he been worth less than €50m, according to the FootballTransfers algorithm.

The departure of the Portuguese might have been used as an opportunity for Man Utd to welcome Rashford back into their fold at the end of the season, but it appears the issue is set to be taken out of their hands by Barcelona, who have made their desire to keep Rashford clear. Now it’s up to the player to decide.
