Chelsea are holding internal talks over Aaron Anselmino, Rennes wonderkid Jeremy Jacquet and Strasbourg loanee Mamadou Sarr as they seek to strengthen their defence ahead of Deadline Day.

Despite not signing a single player to date, the Blues have had quite a mad transfer window. A decision to add a defender was made early on, but actually bringing someone in has proved difficult.

Rennes youngster Jeremy Jacquet is Chelsea's top target, but the Ligue 1 side have dug their heels in. While they are willing to sell the 20-year-old - albeit for a club-record fee north of €65 million - they want to retain his services until the summer as they battle for a spot in Europe.

Chelsea, however, want to sign Jacquet immediately. This has led to an impasse in the negotiations, although discussions continue in a bid to reach a breakthrough. In the meantime, the West London side have controversially recalled Aaron Anselmino from his loan at Borussia Dortmund.

Unfortunately for the Argentine youngster, who did not want to leave Dortmund, he is not actually in the club's plans right now. He has been solely recalled as a contingency and to act as a bargaining chip.

Rosenior wants Sarr at Chelsea

The situation has now become more complicated as Fabrice Hawkins reports that Liam Rosenior has requested that Chelsea recall Mamadou Sarr from his loan at sister club Strasbourg.

Discussions are currently taking place over whether this is feasible because, naturally, Strasbourg would need a replacement. Anselmino would be the obvious choice, but reports on Friday evening tentatively suggested that he was not keen on moving to France.

According to Sky Germany, Anselmino's agent has jetted into London for a Saturday summit with Chelsea's hierarchy to discuss his future. Dortmund, it is claimed, still have faint hopes of being able to re-sign him before the deadline.

This is contingent on Chelsea bringing in Jacquet, but this saga is unlikely to be resolved today. With both Chelsea and Rennes playing on Saturday, Sky Sports reported on Friday evening that negotiations will only pick up a head of steam again on Sunday.

It looks like this story will go right down to the wire. The deadline is on Monday evening.
