Everton have made a formal loan bid for Chelsea winger Tyrique George after Jack Grealish suffered a long-term injury.

The Toffees have been dealt an enormous blow in their pursuit of European football. Star winger Jack Grealish suffered a stress fracture in his foot during a recent win over Aston Villa and is expected to miss the rest of the season, according to head coach David Moyes.

"We believe he's probably going to need surgery, but that's still not absolutely confirmed, but it probably rules him out for the rest of the season, yes," Moyes said on Friday. "It's really disappointing for the player, and for the club, and all of us here. He's such an important part, he's a big character, big experience for us. We'll miss him. He's done a lot of really good things for us."

The injury leaves Grealish's hopes of making England's World Cup squad hanging by a thread, while uncertainty over his long-term future reigns. The winger is only on loan at Everton from Man City, where he is deemed surplus to requirements.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Everton have now made their move for a potential replacement. The transfer insider reports that a loan offer has been submitted for Chelsea attacker Tyrique George.

Everton in talks to sign George

The 19-year-old has predictably struggled for game time this season after failing to secure a move away from Chelsea in the summer. Given that the Blues signed several attackers in the last window, it was clear to George that he had to leave.

However, discussions with Fulham and various other suitors led to nothing, forcing him to remain at Stamford Bridge. He has made just 11 appearances this term, scoring three goals and providing one assist.

Romano reports that Everton's loan offer includes an option to make the teenager's stay permanent in the summer. The Merseyside club are leading the race for George, although the Italian insists that more sides are interested.

Negotiations are in full swing, and the versatile attacker is expected to depart Chelsea before the window shuts on Monday, despite Liam Rosenior previously describing him as “a player of immense potential who I've been aware of for a long time.”
