PSV reject opening Fulham bid for USMNT star Ricardo Pepi
Fulham have seen an opening bid for PSV striker Ricardo Pepi rejected.
The Dutch giants unexpectedly have to seriously consider the departure of their star striker heading into the January transfer window.
Fulham are willing to go to great lengths to acquire the American, according to The Athletic. An initial offer from the Premier League club has reportedly been rejected by the Eindhoven club, but Fulham plan to submit a second bid.
The Eindhovens Dagblad recently reported that Pepi was attracting interest from the English club. It was also claimed that the Philips Stadium outfit had no intention of agreeing to the striker's departure.
Internally, he is considered too important at PSV and is needed to play a major role in securing a third consecutive title and in the club's remaining Champions League matches.
It's now clear that action has indeed been taken from England. Fulham's opening bid for the 22-year-old reportedly clocked in at around €30 million, but the offer wasn't good enough to convince PSV to let Pepi go.
New offer coming soon
Despite the initial offer being rejected, PSV aren't out of the woods yet. Fulham, who have a history of signing Americans, aren't planning on simply abandoning the signing of Pepi.
The outlet reports that a new offer is being prepared at Craven Cottage, but the amount of that offer remains unclear. What is clear in any case is that Fulham will have to dig deep into their pockets to convince PSV.
Pepi recently extended his contract with PSV until 2030, so the Eredivisie giants are in no rush to sell him. The Eindhoven club paid FC Augsburg €11m in 2023 to acquire the striker.
Pepi, who turns 23 next month, has consistently made his mark with goals. He has scored 36 goals in 86 appearances so far.
Fulham have had great success with American forwards in the past, with USMNT legends Brian McBride and Clint Dempsey previously starring for the Cottagers.
