Mo Salah update delivered by Arne Slot: Liverpool boss addresses feud and Brighton return
Arne Slot has revealed the latest on Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool future, with the Anfield manager making several important statements over the Egypt international.
Salah broke ranks last Saturday following a 3-3 draw with Leeds United, claiming that he felt “thrown under a bus” after being left on the bench in three successive Premier League games.
He was subsequently left out of the travelling squad to face Inter Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday – a match the Reds won 1-0.
With transfer rumours linking Salah with a potential move to the Saudi Pro League, what is the status of the 33-year-old in Slot’s plans?
“I will have a conversation with Mo Salah, the outcome of that conversation determines if he’ll play against Brighton,” the manager told the media.
“What I need is a conversation with him. The next time I speak about Mo should be with him and not in here. There's not much more I can say. I speak to him today and the outcome determines how things will look tomorrow.
“You can try in multiple ways but I just said the next time I speak about him should be with him. I think there's been a lot of conversations since last week between his reps and ours.”
Does Slot want Salah to stay at Liverpool?
Slot was asked directly if he wants Salah to remain at the club following the chaos that his comments provoked.
“That’s another way of asking, but the next time I speak about Mo will be with him. I see no reason why I don’t want him to stay,” he said.
The Liverpool boss was also asked about the decision-making process behind Salah being left out of the squad to travel to Italy.
“I think we decided as a club and I was part of that not to take him to Inter. I am always in contact with them with lineup and squads, that is always left to me. I talk to Richard Hughes more than Michael Edwards; we speak about many things,” he said.
Asked if he felt vindicated in dropping Salah as the Reds stretched their undefeated run to four games, he said: “This club has won a lot of games with Mo, so that is the answer.”
