Liverpool have recalled Mohamed Salah to the squad following a "positive" discussion with head coach Arne Slot.

The Egyptian threw his future at Anfield into doubt last weekend when he thundered that he had been "thrown under the bus" after being benched for a third consecutive game.

Salah claimed that his previously "good" relationship with Slot had disappeared and that "someone" at Liverpool wants to get rid of him. He even insinuated that he could leave the club in the January transfer window.

With the 33-year-old heading to the Africa Cup of Nations after Saturday's clash against Brighton, he claimed that he would say "goodbye" to Anfield this weekend and potentially not return.

Following his outburst, Liverpool omitted Salah from their travelling party that flew to Milan for Tuesday's Champions League clash against Inter, but Slot insisted at his pre-match press conference that there is a way back for the club legend.

Salah back in Liverpool squad

The Dutchman evidently told the truth as The Athletic now reports that Salah has been recalled to Liverpool's squad ahead of the Brighton game.

The Egyptian will be part of the matchday squad on Saturday, although whether he will actually get on the pitch remains to be seen. Slot and Salah had a "positive" discussion at Kirkby on Friday morning.

“I will have a conversation with Mo this morning, and the outcome of that conversation determines how it will look tomorrow," Slot said ahead of his talk with Salah.

“What I need is a conversation with him, and the next time I speak about Mo should be with him and not in here. You can keep on trying, but there’s not much more to say.

“We have spoken a lot in the last week. There were a lot of conversations between his representatives and ours, our representatives and him, between him and me, and today I will speak to him again.“

The head coach also insisted that he has “no reasons for not wanting him to stay,” confirming reports that Liverpool want to keep the Egyptian for the duration of his contract, which runs until 2027.

The situation has alerted potential suitors, but it is doubtful whether anyone could afford Salah in January. Even Saudi clubs may not be in a position to sign him as they would have to self-fund deals, with the Pro League refusing to provide additional money to clubs mid-season.
