Josh Acheampong transfer stance revealed after latest Chelsea snub
Josh Acheampong was once again an unused substitute as Chelsea were held to a scoreless draw by Bournemouth on Saturday.
The Blues travelled to the South Coast on the back of a chastening midweek defeat to promoted Leeds for what looked to be a fairly favourable fixture, given that Bournemouth had been in poor form going into the clash.
However, the Cherries ended up being the better side in the first half. Chelsea took control of the game in the second 45, but neither side managed to make their temporary dominance count, resulting in a goalless match.
For Chelsea, it was another disappointing result. However, unlike against Leeds, the defence at least held firm, with Wesley Fofana coming back into the side for Tosin Adarabioyo, who had handed the Elland Road outfit their third goal on Wednesday.
Strangely, though, young Josh Acheampong was snubbed once again by Enzo Maresca, even though on Friday, he revealed his regret at not playing the teenager against Leeds.
What next for Acheampong?
Acheampong has only played eight minutes of football since going the full 90 in a Carabao Cup clash with Wolves in late October. Those eight minutes came against Barcelona, when Chelsea had already sealed their victory.
In the Premier League, the 19-year-old has been an unused substitute in each of the last six games. All told, Acheampong has made just five Premier League appearances so far this term.
Of course, the youngster was not necessarily expected to become a guaranteed starter for a top-four challenger this season, but he will surely be disappointed with his minutes, more so when one remembers that he had offers to leave on loan and get regular game time in the summer.
However, despite the frustrating situation, the BBC reports that Chelsea are keeping the faith in the versatile defender and will not entertain any transfer offers for him, at least not any permanent ones.
Chelsea's club chiefs refused to grant Maresca his wish for a new centre-back when Levi Colwill tore his ACL precisely because they felt Acheampong could step into the breach, and they remain convinced that he will become an important player in the future.
