Crystal Palace make official Marc Guehi transfer statement
Crystal Palace have made a statement on Marc Guehi’s future and of the January transfer window.
Guehi has been dubbed January’s ‘most wanted’ player amid interest from more than a dozen clubs in the England international centre-back.
His contract situation makes him a particularly attractive player for sides seeking to shore up their defence. His deal expires at the end of June, and January will be the final chance for Crystal Palace to cash in on him.
Liverpool made an approach in the closing hours of the summer transfer window and seemed poised to complete a deal before the Selhurst Park club shut it down at the eleventh hour. This seems to have fuelled hopes of clubs that Guehi may become available in January.
The Reds are one of the clubs most hotly linked with him, along with Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Bayern Munich.
Palace boss Oliver Glasner has now spoken out on the situation, making the stance of his club clear as he did so.
"I think Marc will stay in place until the end of the season," he said.
"That's my understanding now. Nobody told me something different.
"I know there's no offer right now so why expect something different?"
Pressure on Palace for Guehi and Glasner
Glasner has been militant on Crystal Palace’s transfer policy since the summer. He has been left frustrated that he has not been given more tools to work with during a season in which the club is juggling European football on top of their domestic commitments.
With Daniel Munoz facing an extended period on the sidelines due to injury, the South London outfit have already lost an important figure ahead of January and their manager, in particular, appears eager that his squad is not depleted any further.
Glasner is likely to get the board’s backing. Amid rumours linking him with a potential switch to Manchester United, he has led Palace to fifth place in the Premier League – an exceptional performance, backing up last season’s FA Cup win spectacularly.
The Eagles are, therefore, aware that there is more than just Guehi’s future at stake on the line in January as they need to keep Glasner happy too.
