Transfer Rumours: Secret Chelsea agreement as surprise Man Utd talks revealed
The rumour mill continues to churn ahead of the January transfer window as clubs across world football begin to finalise their plans in the market.
Below, FootballTransfers runs through the biggest rumours from 12 November, including the latest updates on Moises Caicedo and Mike Maignan.
Chelsea reach secret Caicedo agreement
Contrary to reports, Chelsea will not formally hand star midfielder Moises Caicedo a new contract, according to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol.
Instead, the Blues have simply augmented his existing terms with a pay increase to reward him for his stellar performances since joining the club in 2023.
The two parties have already agreed on this behind the scenes, and Solhekol says that Chelsea will not publicly announce it as a new contract for Caicedo.
Man Utd held Maignan talks
Manchester United held discreet talks with AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan in the summer transfer window, according to French outlet L'Equipe.
However, Man Utd's bid fell short of AC Milan's expectations, and the France international also showed little interest in a move to Old Trafford. Maignan, of course, had agreed terms with Chelsea in the summer, only for the deal to collapse.
The report adds that Galatasaray also made an unsuccessful bid for the Milan captain. As for Man Utd, they ended up signing Royal Antwerp youngster Senne Lammens instead.
Toney return in jeopardy for tax reasons
Ivan Toney is being heavily linked with a January return to the Premier League, but talkSPORT reports that this is unlikely for tax reasons as the former Al-Ahli striker has only been in Saudi Arabia for a short period of time.
A move back to the UK would see Toney hit with a massive tax bill, and this is not a prospect that appeals to the former Brentford star, who is being linked with Tottenham.
It has been claimed that Toney could be tempted to return to the Premier League to have a better shot at making Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad.
Barcelona want Kane
Barcelona have made Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane their top target to replace out-of-contract Robert Lewandowski in 2026, according to The Guardian.
The England captain has a €65m release clause in his contract, but this clause needs to be triggered already in January ahead of a summer move.
It seems unlikely that Barcelona would commit to such a spend in the winter, given their ongoing financial issues, and this move would also cast doubt over Marcus Rashford's future at the club.
Yildiz contract talks stall
Premier League clubs are on red alert as Kenan Yildiz's contract talks with Juventus have come to a standstill, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Turkey international is a long-time Chelsea target, but Arsenal and others are now also paying close attention to his contract situation in Turin.
Yilidz is still tied to Juventus long-term, but the Bianconeri wanted to hand him improved terms to reward him for his development and to fend off interest, primarily from Chelsea.
