Niclas Fullkrug 'hands in transfer request' as agent drops exit hint
West Ham United striker Niclas Fullkrug has officially handed in a transfer request ahead of the January window, according to reports in Germany.
The 32-year-old joined the Hammers from Borussia Dortmund for a whopping €27 million in 2024, however he has endured a torrid spell in London, scoring just three goals in 27 appearances for the club.
The Germany centre forward has struggled with persistent injury problems throughout his time at West Ham and the club are determined to sign a replacement in January as they look to avoid relegation back down to the Championship.
Joshua Zirkzee, Ivan Toney and Endrick are among the strikers who have been linked with a mid-season move to West Ham in recent weeks, while Fullkrug could be set for a departure.
In fact, Sky Sports Germany have revealed that Fullkrug has now submitted a transfer request as he looks to end a miserable stint at West Ham.
Niclas Fullkrug to leave West Ham?
Fullkrug’s agent, Thorsten Wirth, has also hinted that a January exit will take place after admitting that his client’s move to West Ham hasn’t worked out for anyone.
Speaking on the TOMorrow Business Podcast, Wirth said (via The Athletic): “Looking back, we have to say the transfer didn’t work out. There’s no point in sugarcoating it.”
When asked if Fullkrug should depart the Premier League next year, Wirth admitted: “This always has to happen in cooperation with the club, but I believe it can make sense to change something there.
“Time and again, at a point where you said: ‘Now he’s coming, now he’ll show England that it wasn’t just a good European Championship’ and then nothing more will come of it - another injury came along, and that’s a shame.
“He had a bit of a negative momentum and also some bad luck.”
Fullkrug has two-and-a-half years remaining on his current contract at West Ham, but an exit is on the cards and several clubs in the Bundesliga have been credited with interest in the veteran striker.
