Man Utd ready to complete 'bargain' transfer after Arsenal rejection
Manchester United are reportedly ready to match Stade Rennais’ €40 million asking price for Jeremy Jacquet next year after he rejected a move to Arsenal this summer.
The France U21 international is regarded as one of the best young defenders in world football and Arsenal were eager to finalise an agreement for his signature before Transfer Deadline Day after identifying him as a top target.
However, Jacquet opted to snub interest from the Gunners in favour of remaining at Rennes and he has played every available minute in Ligue 1 so far this season.
Man Utd are understood to have sent scouts to watch Jacquet and his club team-mate Mohamed Kader Meite in action this term, and they have been left thoroughly impressed by the former’s potential.
CaughtOffside report that Man Utd scouts have issued “glowing reports” about the 20-year-old and with Rennes resigned to losing the defender, they have set their asking price at a measly €40m.
That figure far exceeds Jacquet’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of just €16.5m, but reflects his status as one of the best young centre-backs in Europe. In fact, a source close to the situation reportedly told CaughtOffside that a fee of €40m for Jacquet is “a bargain in this market.”
Jeremy Jacquet transfer interest
In addition to Man Utd, several other clubs across Europe are also monitoring Jacquet’s progress at Rennes, namely Chelsea, Crystal Palace, RB Leipzig and Tottenham Hotspur.
Liverpool were touted as a possible destination for the Frenchman this summer too, with the Reds set to dip back into the centre-back market next year amid concerns that Ibrahima Konate may depart on a Bosman deal when his current contract expires.
However, Man Utd are eager to win the race for his signature as they look to bolster the defensive options available to Ruben Amorim in 2026.
