Manchester United have been offered Artem Dovbyk in exchange for Joshua Zirkzee by AS Roma, according to Italian media.

The Red Devils have a decision to make over the future of the Netherlands international. Zirkzee is exploring a January exit due to his lack of minutes, but it is not guaranteed that Man Utd will allow him to leave.

Granting Zirkzee his wish may depend on the Old Trafford club bringing in a suitable replacement, and they also want full salary coverage if they are to grant a loan move.

Zirkzee is desperate to play because he wants to make the Netherlands' World Cup squad, but he is not actively agitating for a permanent exit. He is willing to return to Man Utd in the summer.

AS Roma have shown a strong interest in the 24-year-old. However, the Serie A giants can't spend big in January after breaching UEFA's Squad Cost Ratio rule and will have to get creative to bring in the reinforcements demanded by coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

Roma offer Dovbyk swap

According to journalist Enrico Camelio, Roma have offered Man Utd striker Artem Dovbyk in exchange for Zirkzee as they continue their efforts to get rid of the Ukraine international.

Signed for €30.5 million last year after winning LaLiga's Golden Boot, Dovbyk has failed to live up to his price tag in Italy's capital. Already in the summer, Roma tried to swap him for AC Milan striker Santiago Gimenez, who has similarly underwhelmed since moving to Serie A.

Unsurprisingly, Man Utd have no interest in Dovbyk and have rejected Roma's approach. “There’s not a lot of money, even for the next transfer window," Camelio said on Radio Lo Sport.

"One name that’s been circulating is Zirkzee. He would be an incredible upgrade. Manchester United don't want Dovbyk, and so no swap. Let’s wait.” The journalist added that Roma's refusal to sell Manu Kone to Inter in the summer is to blame for their lack of financial wiggle room.
