After previously being at Charlton Athletic as a youngster, Ibe joined the youth system at Wycombe before being picked up by Liverpool at aged 16 for an undisclosed fee.

The winger would make his debut for the club in May of 2013 in a match between Liverpool and Queens Park Rangers.

He started and actually provided an assist for Phillipe Coutinho for the only goal of the game.

During his time with the Reds, he had two loans to Birmingham and then Derby.

Overall, he made 58 appearances for Liverpool before securing a big-money £15 million switch to Bournemouth in 2016.

After being released by the Cherries in 2020, Ibe’s career went into freefall and he had spells at Derby and Adanaspor.

It was thereafter that he began playing lower league football, initially with Ebbsfleet then Hayes & Yeading, then Hungerford Town and now Sittingbourne.

Throughout his career, Ibe has been open about his battle with depression and wrote on social media in 2021:

"Times are hard in general due to this pandemic.

"I will fix myself and this situation, which I'm 100% committed to, not only for my family, friends or my beautiful daughter, but for me.

"I want to apologise to all my fans around the world. I find myself in a dark place due to suffering with depression.

"It's no scheme for the media or to have my name in your mouths, I just find things hard truly."

Sittingbourne statement

Confirming his arrival, Sittingbourne released a heartfelt statement in which they stated a desire to help Ibe find his love of the game again:

“We’re proud to announce that Sittingbourne FC has been entrusted with supporting Jordon Ibe on his journey to rediscover the joy of football

"After discussions between Jordon, his agent and the club, it was agreed that Sittingbourne provides the ideal environment with our recent successes and strong team culture to help him thrive again.

"Jordon was influenced by the many positive things he’s heard about the club and he believes this is the perfect place to rebuild momentum and showcase his talent. We’re delighted to play a part in helping him get back to where he belongs in the game.”
