'He's done nothing!' - Chelsea receive brutal Estevao warning
Chelsea have been warned that Estevao Willian could follow in Jadon Sancho’s footsteps as “he has done nothing” in his career so far.
The Brazil international joined Chelsea from Palmeiras for €45 million in July, with the Blues beating both Barcelona and Real Madrid to his signature, and he has already established himself as a firm fan favourite at Stamford Bridge.
The 18-year-old has scored four goals and provided one assist in 16 appearances since his arrival at Chelsea and a large section of supporters have urged Enzo Maresca to give the teenager a more prominent first-team role for the remainder of the season.
Estevao has caught the eye in cup competitions so far this term, while he also netted a last-gasp winner versus Liverpool in the Premier League in late October, but he hasn’t started an English top flight match since September.
However, despite his burgeoning reputation as one of the best youngsters in world football, former Liverpool forward John Barnes believes Estevao still has a lot to prove to become a regular starter for Chelsea.
Chelsea sent Estevao warning
“Estevao is a young player who has come into the team and is doing well at the moment,” Barnes told Video Gamer (via Metro).
“However, I remember Jadon Sancho doing the same thing and based off that I tend to leave opinions on young players alone and wait for them to grow. We can’t start putting pressure on him yet.
“In reality, he’s had 10 good games… he’s done nothing! He’s got lots of potential, but we’ve seen that at Chelsea before and there’s lots of examples where it hasn’t worked out.
“He’s not going to be a starter every week because they have so many players and all of a sudden, if he has a few below-par performances, we could be writing him off after another 10 games.
“He has good potential, lots of ability and he can be a very good player, but at this moment in time he has done nothing and achieved nothing.”
