Fabrizio Romano reveals Arsenal's next transfer priority
Arsenal are unlikely to dip into the market in January as their full focus remains on giving key players new contracts, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners have been handing out extensions and pay increases left, right and centre in recent months to reward the players for their development in recent seasons.
Gabriel Magalhaes, William Saliba, Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly have all signed extensions at the Emirates, while Leandro Trossard and David Raya had their salaries boosted in the summer.
Arsenal are six points clear at the summit of the Premier League table and are looking to build a dynasty that can dominate England's top flight for years to come.
Next up on the agenda are new deals for Bukayo Saka, Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice. According to Fabrizio Romano, these extensions take precedence over any potential transfer business in January.
Arsenal prioritising new contracts
Given how spectacularly successful Arsenal's summer business has turned out to be and how well-stocked they look even in the face of injuries to key players, the Gunners are not concerned about adding more players in the winter window.
Speaking on his Here We Go podcast, Romano said: "Arsenal, in January, unless there is some problem or some issue or some injury, we never know in football, but at the moment Arsenal are very happy with the squad they have, very happy also with the attitude of the players.
"At the moment, it's very quiet. Arsenal's focus is on contracts. Bukayo Saka, expected to sign a new contract at Arsenal until 2030 as soon as possible. The agreement is getting closer. It's not signed or done yet, but it will get done.
"Then there is Jurrien Timber. Arsenal are also negotiating with Timber over a new deal. And then also Declan Rice. For Rice, it's not an urgent situation, but I think in the next months discussions will start between Rice and Arsenal over a new contract."
"Arsenal, more than on new players, are focused on keeping the players they have while doing fantastic at the moment this season."
