Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are both known admirers of the 25-year-old, while Chelsea have now reportedly joined the race to sign him, despite the fact that Emanuel Emegha will arrive at the club from Strasbourg in 2026.

Alvarez worked with Blues boss Enzo Maresca during their time together at Man City and it’s understood that Chelsea have shortlisted the Atletico Madrid star as a possible target for next year.

This has been confirmed by Spanish publication Fichajes, who claim that Chelsea are even preparing a €150m offer for the Argentina striker, which would make him the most expensive player in Premier League history.

Alvarez has scored 38 goals and provided 12 assists in 72 appearances for Atletico Madrid and Chelsea have reportedly asked Enzo Fernandez to convince his international team-mate to complete a blockbuster move to Stamford Bridge next year.

Julian Alvarez confirms transfer interest

During an interview with L’Equipe in early November, Alvarez addressed speculation linking him with an Atletico Madrid departure in 2026.

“Do I plan on playing at Barcelona or at PSG? Honestly, I don't know,” the Argentina superstar admitted.

"I see what people say on social media… in Spain, people speak a lot about me and Barcelona. For now, I am focused on Atletico, and we will review at the end of the season.”

He added: When I signed for Atletico, we spoke a lot about Paris. It's true. There were discussions between the PSG hierarchy and my agent. They showed interest in signing me, but it didn't happen.”
