Glazers 'open' to selling Man Utd as UAE officials jet in for takeover talks
The Glazer family are reportedly open to selling Manchester United after a 20-year spell as the club’s owners.
The Glazers purchased the club back in 2005 and they have been at the helm of the Red Devils for the past two decades, despite numerous fan protests against their regime.
Avram and Joel Glazer have been in charge of the Old Trafford outfit since the death of their father Malcolm in 2014, although they sold a minority stake to INEOS owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe in late 2023.
However, the Glazers are now open to a full sale of the club, with Ratcliffe’s involvement therefore at major risk.
INEOS were given full control of football operations following their purchase of a minority stake at Man Utd, however the Red Devils are now in talks over a full takeover that would see Ratcliffe forced out.
That is according to renowned X account IndyKaila, who posted on social media: “Our sources at Man Utd are reporting that United Arab Emirates-based consortium are meeting Man Utd officials in London at 1pm
“The UAE officials are very serious about purchasing the club. The Glazers are open to all possibilities.”
Glazers to leave Man Utd?
News that Man Utd are in talks with a consortium from the UAE comes after Saudi Arabia government official Turki Al-Sheikh claimed that a new owner is in advanced talks over a takeover bid.
He posted on X: “The best news I heard today is that Manchester United is now in an advanced stage of completing a deal to sell to a new investor – I hope he’s better than the previous owners.”
Al-Sheikh later clarified that he was not involved in the deal, while he also insisted that Man Utd will not be taken over by a representative of Saudi Arabia.
However, the club appear to have scheduled talks with UAE officials as the Glazers open the door to a possible sale.
