Chelsea eye surprise move for bargain Australia international
Chelsea owners BlueCo have added Randers FC striker Mohamed Toure to their list of scouting targets, according to a report.
The Australia international is showing signs of promise in Denmark, having joined Randers from Stade Reims' last year. Toure was previously a breakout star for Adelaide United in the A-League Men, which prompted the then-Ligue 1 side to take a chance on him.
Despite putting up decent numbers for the French side's reserves, Toure had little hope of making it in the first team and departed for Randers in 2024. So far this season, the striker has notched two goals and five assists in 12 appearances.
According to TEAMtalk, the 21-year-old, who is represented by the well-connected agency Wasserman, is attracting attention from around Europe and the US, where he recently clocked 30 minutes for Australia against the USMNT.
Surprisingly, Chelsea owners BlueCo are explicitly mentioned as having added Toure to their list of potential targets, although likely with a move to sister club Strasbourg in mind. He currently has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €1.5m, making him a bargain.
Toure a sought-after commodity
It is asserted that BlueCo are facing competition from at least three Major League Soccer franchises for Toure, with LAFC, the Vancouver Whitecaps and CF Montreal mentioned as his suitors.
Additionally, Toure is said to be fielding interest from Germany, other clubs in England and bigger teams from Denmark. A January transfer is not being ruled out, although the striker remains focused on his current side.
MLS clubs appear to be at a disadvantage as Toure's priority looks to be making it in Europe, having previously been the hottest commodity in Australia, where he made his professional debut aged 15.
Toure, whose parents are Liberian, does have a connection to the US, with his older brother Al Hassan having previously played for Tulsa in the second-tier USL Championship after a stint in Turkey. His younger brother Musa, meanwhile, plays with him at Randers.
