Jonathan Vidalle, Arsenal's chief South America scout, has revealed that Midtjylland winger Dario Osorio reminds him of Argentina legend Angel di Maria.

The 21-year-old has been playing in Denmark since summer 2023. In 77 appearances for Midtjylland, Osorio has notched 20 goals and 10 assists, and he has already been capped 19 times by Chile's senior national team.

Naturally, this has put him on the radar of bigger clubs, and Arsenal's chief South America scout, Jonathan Vidalle, has now revealed that he is a big fan of the youngster.

In an interview with ADN Deportes, in which he also spoke about scouting Atletico Madrid star Thiago Almada extensively, Vidalle compared young Osorio to Argentina legend Angel di Maria, who returned to boyhood club Rosario Central in the summer after an illustrious 18-year career in Europe.

"I see similarities in Dario Osorio with Di Maria when he started, because he has that characteristic of an intelligent winger, skilled in one-on-one situations, who knows how to cut inside and finish well, but perhaps he was not ready for a bigger leap," Vidalle said.

Osorio ready for stardom after Denmark move

Osorio has again been impressing for Midtjylland this season, recording five goals and five assists so far across all competitions, including an assist in the famous 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest in the Europa League.

Vidalle believes that he made the right choice by taking things slow and moving to a smaller European league rather than joining a big club immediately after leaving formative side Universidad de Chile.

"For example, going to Arsenal was too big a step, a giant one, so sometimes it's better to move to leagues like Mexico, Holland, Portugal, or Denmark," Vidalle explained.

"It's the best way to fully develop the player, to finally gain confidence, to exploit all his strengths, and to see what he's made of, obviously with a different mentality."

If he keeps impressing in Denmark, he is bound to secure a big move elsewhere. With Vidalle among his notable admirers, his path could perhaps even lead to Arsenal in the future.
