OFFICIAL: Man Utd complete Senne Lammens signing
Manchester United have officially completed the signing of Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
The Red Devils have managed to secure the arrival of a new shot-stopper at the 11th hour. Heading into Deadline Day, Man Utd were in talks with Antwerp for Lammens but also with Aston Villa for Emiliano Martinez.
Both players were keen to make the move to Old Trafford. However, Man Utd could only sign one, and when they failed to reach an agreement with Villa, as had also happened in July, they opted to go all in on Lammens.
Negotiations with Antwerp had proved difficult in recent days, with the Belgian side hoping for a bidding war as Galatasaray and Aston Villa were also interested in the 23-year-old.
Ultimately, Man Utd managed to reach an agreement for a $25 million fee plus an undisclosed amount of add-ons, likely taking the deal up or at least close to Antwerp's $30m asking price.
Man Utd sign Lammens
Man Utd have now confirmed that the promising goalkeeper has joined the club on a long-term deal, with all paperwork sorted before the deadline passed.
At this stage, it is not entirely clear if Lammens will immediately become Ruben Amorim's No.1 or if he will have to fight for his place with Altay Bayindir and the out-of-favour Andre Onana.
Many much more experienced players - like Onana - have struggled to cope with the current pressure at Man Utd, so there may be a reluctance to throw the youngster into the deep end.
Both Onana and Bayindir have repeatedly made mistakes when called upon, which may yet force Amorim's hand. One can only hope that Lammens will fare better than his predecessors.
