Trent Alexander-Arnold only signed for Real Madrid in June, but the former Liverpool player could be on his way out of the Bernabeu already.

Los Blancos paid the Reds €10 million to release him a month early from his contract, but his time in Spain has been little short of a disaster following an impressive display at his unveiling, during which he spoke Spanish.

Reports last week indicated that Trent is destined to be dropped from Xabi Alonso’s plans following a poor run of form as well as the return of Dani Carvajal.

“What’s going on with Trent is a tragedy, what we can expect from him every time he plays for Madrid. It’s a signing that was done with their ass; I can’t explain it. He contributes nothing. If this goes on, the starter will be Carvajal,” Coto Matamoro, a Real Madrid fan, told Sport.

But the situation appears to be even graver than first though. Indykaila reports that Alexander-Arnold is already set to be sold by the Spanish club, with a return to the Premier League on the cards.

Sensational Premier League return in view

Manchester City are tracking Trent with a view to a move for the 26-year-old in January, the mysterious transfer insider writes for CaughtOffside.

Pep Guardiola’s side have twice approached the England international over a move in the past, and now it is claimed that if he drops to the Real Madrid bench, they “could make a sensational bid for the player”.

City are known to be looking for a long-term successor to Kyle Walker, and with Trent struggling to adapt to life at the Bernabeu, if the situation does not improve this could be a viable move.

Any operation would be costly, though. Trent is under contract with Real Madrid until June 2031 and has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €69.4m.

After picking him up cheaply with a lucrative wage, though, it may be that Los Blancos are willing to cut their losses at a bargain price.
