Liverpool are in talks to sign one of the world's best players, and it's not Alexander Isak just yet, as reports from Spain suggest they are open to signing Real Madrid forward Rodrygo.

The Brazil international star has attracted interest from numerous Premier League clubs this summer. Manchester City have notably been following the winger, with Pep Guardiola seeing him as a “dream” addition at the Etihad Stadium.

According to Defensa Central, though, Liverpool are on course to beat their Premier League rivals to the 24-year-old star.

The report from Spain states that the player’s agents have already travelled to England for face-to-face talks with several teams. The offer from Liverpool is said to be the most concrete, with Arne Slot’s side seeking a like-for-like replacement for Luis Diaz, who left for Bayern Munich in the summer.

Rodrygo is said to be “perfect” for the Premier League champions, given his dynamism, ability to break lines and score goals at key moments.

It is claimed that the player himself is “very excited” about the prospect of moving to Liverpool. The Reds are said to be the “most attractive” option for him due to their tradition, ambition and sporting potential.

Real Madrid have put a price tag of around €100 million on Rodrygo, who has been peripheral under new head coach Xabi Alonso. If a deal is completed around this price, it would take Liverpool’s spending to $496 million for the summer but would also hint that any deal for Alexander Isak would be over for the moment.

Harvey Elliott sale could unlock Rodrygo deal

Liverpool’s big-spending transfer policy has seen them reinforce their forward line spectacularly, and that is set to come at a cost for Harvey Elliott.

The winger, who notched the winner against PSG at Parc des Princes in the Champions League last season, is close to completing a move to RB Leipzig for $53m.

“RB Leipzig are still there exploring this move for Harvey Elliott,” transfer journalist Pete O’Rourke told Football Insider, which claims that a deal is being ‘finalised’.

“I still think there’s a real strong possibility that he could end up making that move to Germany.”

Elliott’s move to the Bundesliga side, who lost 6-0 against Bayern Munich on Friday, would open up the possibility of Rodrygo arriving due to the extra funding the transfer would generate.
