Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea to complete double transfer soon
Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund are expected to complete their double deal for Carney Chukwuemeka and Aaron Anselmino by Monday, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The two clubs have been in continuous contact all summer to discuss transfers for various players. Jamie Gittens swapped Dortmund for Chelsea in June, Renato Veiga was briefly eyed by the Bundesliga side ahead of his move to Villarreal and then there was Carney Chukwuemeka.
The England youth international spent the second half of last season on loan at Dortmund, and the club managed to agree an extension with Chelsea for the Club World Cup.
Talks then centred around a fresh deal for this season, but these discussions initially proved fruitless. Dortmund offered a loan with an option to buy the midfielder, which was deemed 'insulting' by the Blues.
After failing to secure other targets like Claudio Echeverri and Facundo Buonanotte, the Black and Yellow again sat down with Chelsea to talk about Chukwuemeka, and the two clubs finally managed to find common ground.
Dortmund to secure unique double deal
Dortmund and Chelsea are now closing in on a full agreement, but not just for Chukwuemeka. The Blues have made it clear to their German counterparts that if they want a deal for the 21-year-old, they will also have to take Aaron Anselmino on loan.
Chukwuemeka is set to join Dortmund for $23 million, while Anselmino's move will be a straight loan without any permanent element attached, with Chelsea keen for the Argentine youngster to gain top-level experience.
According to Fabrizio Romano, this unique double deal is expected to be finalised by Monday amid a growing restlessness among the Dortmund fanbase over a lack of signings.
Securing $23m for Chukwuemeka will aid Chelsea in their efforts to sign Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho. The Blues need to offload their 'Bomb Squad' players before they can add the two attackers, with Leipzig holding out for $81m for Simons, and Man Utd demanding over €50m for Garnacho.
