Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Arsenal are admirers of Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon.

Signing a new left-winger is seen as a priority by the Gunners hierarchy. Although Gabriel Martinelli is a solid Premier League player, he lacks the X-factor that Arsenal need to win major trophies.

Heading into the summer, the North London club's top target was Nico Williams, but the Spaniard has made it clear that he has his heart set on joining Barcelona.

Arsenal then pivoted to Real Madrid star Rodrygo, but as revealed by FootballTransfers last week, they have cooled their interest in the Brazilian as he has yet to make a decision on whether or not to move this summer.

With Rodrygo also out of the picture, Arsenal have begun exploring high-level domestic options such as Morgan Rogers, Eberechi Eze and, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, Anthony Gordon.

Arsenal keen on Gordon

It has been known for some time that the Gunners admire the Newcastle winger, but his name rarely comes up in conversations regarding a summer move, likely due to the Magpies' unwillingness to sell and the fact that he only signed a new long-term deal last year.

According to Romano, it is true that Arsenal rate Gordon highly, but he has also corroborated that they have yet to hold any talks with Newcastle over a move for the 24-year-old.

“Arsenal's interest is true," Romano told GIVEMESPORT. "He is one of the players they like, and they discussed internally. But from what I understand, it’s not that Arsenal have opened any negotiations with Newcastle or with his agents.

“It's just an appreciation for the player. For the winger position at Arsenal, I think we have to be a bit patient before we understand who the player they really want to sign is.”
