Arsenal are preparing a second bid worth €18 million for Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera, sources have told FootballTransfers.

The Gunners are eager to sign a new centre-back in order to provide adequate cover for William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, and Mosquera has emerged as their primary target in recent weeks.

The 21-year-old has just one year remaining on his current contract at Valencia and the Spanish giants are set to sanction a sale if they receive a suitable offer this summer.

Arsenal saw their opening offer for the Spain U21 international knocked back by Valencia and FootballTransfers has been informed that a second bid of €18m is now set to be submitted by Mikel Arteta’s side.

However, Valencia still value the highly-rated defender at €22m and Arsenal could therefore be forced to increase their offer further in order to finalise a deal.

The north London giants were initially interested in signing Mosquera’s Valencia team-mate Yarek Gasiorowski, as exclusively reported by FootballTransfers earlier this year, however they have now fully turned their focus to signing the 21-year-old.

We understand that during negotiations to sign Gasiorowski, Arsenal were approached by Mosquera’s agent and they were informed that his client was keen to secure a switch to the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal eventually opted to shift their focus to Mosquera and they are now hopeful of reaching an agreement with Valencia soon.

Arsenal’s summer transfer plans

Kepa Arrizabalaga has been officially unveiled as Arsenal’s first signing of the summer transfer window, but the Gunners have also finalised a deal for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

They are in advanced negotiations to sign Brentford captain Christian Norgaard too, while Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres remain their two primary centre forward targets.

However, we understand that Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins is also wanted by Arsenal. The England international scored 17 goals in 54 games across all competitions last season and, as exclusively revealed by FootballTransfers back in April, Manchester United are interested in a possible summer deal too.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s interest in Nico Williams has cooled following news that he has agreed personal terms with Barcelona, and FootballTransfers has been informed that Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze has emerged as a key target in recent days.
