Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has addressed the speculation surrounding Jamie Gittens and Jadon Sancho after a hectic Deadline Day.

The Bundesliga giants were locked in talks with Chelsea over Gittens all day on Tuesday as the Blues desperately scrambled to bring in the England youth international ahead of the Club World Cup deadline.

Ultimately, they failed to achieve this after having a €50 million bid rebuffed by Dortmund, who were reportedly holding out for a fee in the region of €65m. The deal collapsed, but Chelsea are expected to reignite talks for the proper transfer window, which opens June 16 for English clubs.

Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has now confirmed that a gap in valuation doomed the talks with Chelsea. Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Kehl revealed: "Yes, there was contact with Chelsea, who approached us yesterday afternoon," he said.

"We had a phone call and spoke about expectations and requirements. Ultimately, we couldn't reach an agreement because we had different views on the current value of the player. But they were very respectful discussions, we have a good relationship with Chelsea."

Kehl dismisses Sancho rumours

Kehl also addressed Dortmund's supposed interest in former superstar Jadon Sancho, who is now once again on the market after being sent back to Man Utd by loan club Chelsea after the Blues failed to agree terms with him.

The Athletic recently claimed that Dortmund hold an interest in signing Sancho for a third time. However, Kehl insists that this is purely speculation at this point, with the club currently not trying to bring the winger back to the club.

"There is always contact with Jadon in one way or another because we have a long-standing relationship with him. Currently, Jadon is not a topic for us. We have different priorities at present, and it seems that the name Jadon Sancho has been played up more in the media than actually discussed internally."

Dortmund would likely struggle to afford a permanent move for Sancho, both in terms of fee and wages. If Chelsea didn't want to match his financial demands, then Dortmund most certainly won't - and probably couldn't even if they wanted to.
