Arsenal turn to Eze as cut-price alternative to Rodrygo transfer

Arsenal are considering a move for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze as a cheaper option to Rodrygo if the Real Madrid star proves too expensive to solve their winger conundrum.
Mikel Arteta is desperate to add pedigree to his left flank while also bringing the versatility to cover Bukayo Saka on the right if need be, which has prompted Rodrygo becoming a crucial target for Arsenal.
Rodrygo is considering his future in Madrid, although no decisions will be made until after the Club World Cup when he will hold talks with new manager Xabi Alonso, however the Brazilian’s asking price of at least €90 million may prove to be a stumbling block for the Gunners.
Arteta is understood to have already given his approval to sign Rodrygo and he is seen as the club’s ideal target, but with the likelihood of a deal still uncertain, Arsenal have continued to assess other options, leading the club to Eze.
Eze has a release clause of around £68m (€80m) in his contract with Palace and talkSPORT claim that Arsenal are now preparing to rival Tottenham to sign the 26-year-old this summer.
With two years remaining on his contract, Palace are open to Eze’s departure, although Arsenal may only end up moving for the England international if it is clear that Rodrygo is an unrealistic option to sign this summer.
Arsenal eye Eze as proven talent to increase quality on left flank
Eze has been a consistent performer for Palace since moving to the club in 2020 for €18m, having grabbed eight goals and eight assists in the Premier League last season.

Palace have primarily used Eze as a left winger or a number ten and, while he has significantly less experience on the right flank, the forward could still prove to be a capable backup for Saka.
Arsenal are believed to prefer a more natural versatile option such as Nico Williams, but they backed out of a move for the Athletic Club star due to his wage demands despite him being their top choice, with Barcelona now expected to sign the Spaniard.
Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard are still expected to remain at the Emirates this summer but Arsenal are targeting a superior option to the pair who can transform Arteta’s attack, hence the willingness to splash out on a costly player like Eze or Rodrygo.
