Manchester United are plotting a stunning €100 million transfer if they defeat Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final, a stunning report claims.

Ruben Amorim’s side face an uncertain summer should they fail to win the San Mames clash next week but victory would open up a world of possibilities in the transfer market – including the chance to sign one of the Premier League’s top stars.

Man Utd will move for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali should they overcome Spurs, with the Red Devils willing to spend €100m on the Italy international, according to a report from Corriere dello Sport.

Tonali to Man Utd: Rating the rumour

Tonali moving to Man Utd appears a far-fetched prospect, despite the 25-year-old having an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €52.9m – around half of what the Old Trafford side are reportedly willing to spend on him.

Indeed, it would be a big surprise if United were to invest that money in a midfielder given the priorities of Amorim appear to lie in attack, where he is lining up three new signings.

On top of this, he has praised the recent performances of Casemiro, who has won him over lately.

And from the Newcastle perspective, a sale is also an unlikely prospect.

The Geordies are no longer a club that can be bullied into selling players they wish to retain, as they have shown with Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes, and there is no apparent appetite to offload Tonali. The midfielder, after all, has been an ever present in the Premier League since returning to action following a long-term suspension for breaking betting rules while he has only missed one game since August.

Furthermore, the United project is on unsteady ground compared to that of their St James’ Park rivals. The minority takeover of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos has not yielded positive results, with the club in turmoil towards the bottom of the Premier League table.

Newcastle are planning big things, with the Magpies even discussing the prospect of drafting Xavi in as their new manager as they prepare to take a big step up with their ambitions in the months and years ahead.
