Deco admitted that the Colombia winger is a player that Barca like but clarified his comments by stating that Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford could also become a target.

Now journalist Uriel Iugt has revealed that a deal for Luis Diaz appears to be a lot further along than the director admitted.

Taking to Twitter, he reports: “Barcelona are going all out to sign Luis Diaz.

“Talks are already underway between the parties, and in the coming days, they will see if it's possible to make progress. The discussions are ongoing, and there is real interest.

“The player is willing to leave Liverpool.”

On Thursday, Deco admitted that the winger is a player of interest to Barca.

The sporting director said: “We like Luis Diaz, we like Rashford and we like other wingers too. We can't talk about players under contract with other clubs.”

Meanwhile, it was claimed in Sport that the winger is ignoring Liverpool’s attempts to offer him a new contract while he waits for the deal with Barcelona to develop.

Luis Diaz: Underrated at Liverpool?

Luis Diaz will not come cheap. The Liverpool star has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €71 million while the Reds signed him from Porto for €54m in January 2022.

His talents, meanwhile, needed time to be appreciated by Anfield boss Arne Slot, who initially started with him as a substitute at the beginning of the season.

Now a first-team regular, Luis Diaz has racked up an impressive 13 goals and seven assists across 35 Premier League matches.

According to data analytics firm SciSports, he was the second-best performing winger statistically in the Premier League with the exception of Manchester City’s Savinho, who spent much of the campaign injured.

Despite this, the 28-year-old is rarely cited among the ranks of Liverpool’s top players and the opportunity to move to Barcelona, which his father previously described as “a dream”, could prove too much to turn down.
