The 28-year-old winger is set to sign a new contract with Liverpool, with Todo Fichajes claiming that he is ready to turn down interest from Spain to pursue his career goals with Arne Slot’s side.

Luis Diaz is under contract until 2027, but comments the player’s father made about Barcelona being his dream club had fuelled the suggestion that he could leave for Camp Nou in the summer.

“It is true that Luis is a loyal Barcelona fan and it would be his dream to go there. So far, I would like to thank Porto and Liverpool for the way they welcomed him and received him,” Mane Diaz told Win Sports in November 2023.

“Luis is a player who finds it easy to win over because of the way he is, because of his humility, his work, his dedication, he is a very disciplined player, thank God. There would be no problem if Luis came to Barcelona because it is a top team and one of the best in the world.”

On top of this, the player’s entourage had been vocal about the player being unhappy in a backup role during periods this season, further increasing rumours that he could leave.

Slot tells Liverpool not to sell Diaz

The prospect of this is diminishing, according to reports from Spain, which state that Diaz is seen as a “standout” player by Reds boss Arne Slot, who has seen the former Porto star net 14 goals for the season.

Indeed, it is claimed that Slot himself has personally instructed the board to refuse all offers for the Colombia star.

As well as Barcelona, interest had also come from the Saudi Pro League.

Luis Diaz is set to open contract talks with Liverpool that will put an end to the transfer rumours and see the player remain at Anfield for the foreseeable future.

After Salah and Van Dijk, this would complete a precious hat-trick of new deals for Slot as he builds towards the club’s title defence.
