Chelsea EMBARRASSMENT as axed star named Player of the Season

Exiled Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic has been named Strasbourg's Player of the Season.
The goalkeeper position is one that has given Chelsea headaches all season as Enzo Maresca's baffling faith in Robert Sanchez has left fans fuming. The Spaniard has repeatedly looked wobbly and been guilty of mistakes, yet the head coach has persisted with him.
There was a short period where even Maresca couldn't justify using Sanchez anymore, but following a howler by replacement Filip Jorgensen, he swiftly reinstated the 27-year-old.
Sanchez had already lost his place under Mauricio Pochettino last season and was replaced by Djordje Petrovic, who came in and did a solid job. However, when Maresca took over, he decided that the Serbia international was not good enough in possession to feature in his system.
Petrovic was sent out on loan to Ligue 1 affiliate Strasbourg, and he was nothing short of sensational for the Alsatians in 2024/25.
Petrovic named Strasbourg Player of the Season
The Ligue 1 campaign concluded on Saturday evening in exciting fashion as Strasbourg were involved in an intense battle for the division's final Champions League spot.
Unfortunately for the Alsatians, results went against them and they couldn't quite manage to sneak in, ultimately having to settle for a place in the Conference League. This is good news for Chelsea as they look a solid bet to get into the Champions League.

Had both BlueCo sides qualified for the same UEFA competition, they would have been prohibited from doing business with each other this summer, thus throwing Chelsea's transfer plans into disarray.
Being able to send players to Strasbourg to develop has been a fruitful endeavour for the West London outfit, and Petrovic is a prime example of this. He was crowned Racing's Player of the Season ahead of their clash with Le Havre.
It is difficult to imagine that the 25-year-old would not have been useful to Chelsea this season, but it seems that Maresca has learned from his mistake. As things stand, Petrovic will return to Stamford Bridge and be given a chance to fight for the No.1 spot.
Whether he will ultimately stay is a different question, of course, as his world-class performances have also attracted the attention of other clubs. Bayer Leverkusen, for example, are in the market for a new shot-stopper and have taken a liking to Petrovic.
