Garnacho to Chelsea: Is Man Utd superstar worth his €76m price tag?

Chelsea remain interested in signing Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho this summer after failing to reach an agreement for the Argentine in January.
Garnacho, 20, has been tipped to leave Old Trafford once the 2024-25 campaign reaches its conclusion, amid the Red Devils’ desire to raise funds through player sales, and Chelsea are set to battle Napoli for his signature.
Enzo Maresca’s side are actively pursuing a new right-footed left winger and they have identified Garnacho as one of three key targets - along with Athletic Club’s Nico Williams and Borussia Dortmund.
In fact, The Daily Star have claimed that Chelsea are “expected” to pursue a deal for Garnacho this summer, although Man Utd will reportedly demand a transfer fee of €76 million (£65m) in order to sanction a sale to the Stamford Bridge outfit.
How much is Alejandro Garnacho worth?
While Man Utd have set their asking price for Garnacho at €76m, he isn’t quite worth that much.
The Argentine still has three years remaining on his current contract and he is only 20 years old, granted, but he has been below par this campaign.

Garnacho only has seven goals in 47 appearances across the Premier League and Europa League this season, while his assist versus Brentford on Sunday was his first in the English top flight since Man Utd’s opening day win over Fulham in August.
Furthermore, FootballTransfers’ in-house Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) model - which takes into account player age, player performance and contract length, among other factors - asserts that Garnacho is worth just €60.7m.
He is the second-most valuable player in the Man Utd squad, but he only ranks 46th on the list of the most valuable stars in the Premier League - behind the likes of Rico Lewis, Ethan Nwaneri and Amadou Onana.
To Man Utd, Garnacho is extremely valuable and his talent justifies their €76m asking price.
Chelsea, however, shouldn’t pay that fee as his current performance level doesn’t suggest he is a player worthy of becoming the club’s seventh-most expensive signing in history.
